We heard about the Britball Run whilst researching the famous Cannonball Run. We had big ideas but found our budget more suited to 3 days in one country than a week across Europe.
Britball Run is organised by Britteam Ltd. It is a 1,000-mile car tour with a difference, held on British soil. The last event travelled through Wales, East Anglia and the Cotswolds.
It is not about chewing up tarmac. The emphasis is on team work, skill of navigation, forward planning, quick decision making and luck depending upon route taken and traffic volume. It's about driving across the UK whilst raising money for charity, and having a laugh along the way.
Well, there was certainly a light bulb moment. We needed a charity to raise money for if we were going to do the run. Whilst googling charities related to transport we found TVACAA.
We have chosen to raise funds for the Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance. We chose this charity as it is in our local area, and helps to save many lives every year.
Of course we had to dress up. We had many ideas, we could wear grass skirts and coconuts (bit cold), vintage 50's driving outfits (bit expensive), cannonball run characters (who are they?) or Scooby Doo and team (no room for a dog). Then we thought of the Stig. A hero to car enthusiasts, who better to lead us in a driving challenge, and of course there have now been two Stigs. Perfect.
